Members of the North West Chapter of the Fellowship of First Fleeters had a busy time on Australia Day.
Descendentants of our members arrived in Australia in 1788 and on 26th January of that year Captain Philip raised the flag at Port Jackson, taking possession of the land in the name of the British Government and the colonisation of Australia was begun.
On Saturday night, 24th January 2004, the members helped with taking the donation bucket among the estimated 2,000 people watching a Country Music Concert in Tamworth and on Monday we attended a morning service in the Bush Chapple in the Tamworth Botanic Gardens. President Warren White read the lesson from Isaiah 32:15-18.
We then headed to Wallabadah for a picnic in the newly formed First Fleet Memorial Gardens.
We toured the gardens and then joined in with an Australia Day function conducted by the Quirindi Shire Council.

We discovered the Memorial Gardens, quite by chance, on our way home last week and we were both very impressed and moved by the care and attention to detail. We live in Moruya (far south cost). My g,g,g, grandfather was a convict on the Alexander. I took several photos which I am sending to my grandchildren. Keep up the good work. Our ancestors should be remembered. Only yesterday I became aware of my links to John Cross and Mary Ann Davison, via a family tree website. I almost feel jealous that all the existing members have long known this information and have been able to pay hommage and respect to our forebears in teh way that they have. I appreciate all you have done, many thanks. I would like to know where I can obtain all this wonderful information so that I may pass it on to my children. Wed 28-Jul-2010 07:14

I've been spreading the word down here on the south coast about the memorial gardens at Wallabadah. It was such a pleasant surprise to find it. I've given copies of the photos I took to the local historical society, who of course knew nothing about the garden the same as us. I also sent in a description of the gardens to the motor home club which was published. Kind regards Jan Thu 29-Jul-2010 09:27
